EXPO behind the Scene

Since The Great Exhibition of the Works of Industry of all Nations of 1851 in London, U.K., World Expos have become some of the planet’s largest events, attracting millions of visitors.

In 2013, UAE celebrated. Dubai won the bid and would soon be ‘Connecting Minds and Creating the Future’ with the first World Expo to be held in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia (MEASA) region.

For 170 years, World Expos have provided a platform to showcase the greatest innovations that have shaped the world we live in today. Expo 2020 continues that tradition with the latest technology from around the globe.

There was once nothing but sand and one lone ghaf tree. Then Expo began rising from the desert. Everything in the 4.38 square kilometres is built with forethought and a future purpose.

It wasn’t just Expo that was emerging – there were also hotels, highways and roads, a new metro line extension as Dubai and UAE were preparing to welcome the world.

For the first time in World Expo history, every participating country has its own pavilion. The largest event ever staged in the Arab world welcomed 192 countries – never in history have so many nations and so many cultures gathered together at a World Expo.

Expo 2020 will be open for six months, from October 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022.

Through its theme ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’ and sub-themes Opportunity, Mobility and Sustainability, Expo 2020 Dubai offers a global platform to foster creativity, innovation and collaboration.

After the event, the infrastructure and built environment will be repurposed for a smart city, District 2020. It will carry on and fulfil Expos founding vision to be an ecosystem to connect, create and innovate.

District 2020 will evolve from Expo 2020 Dubai as a smart and sustainable city centred on the needs of its urban community. It will provide a curated innovation-driven business ecosystem that brings together global minds and embraces technology and digital innovation to support industry growth.

Following the six months of the World Expo, District 2020 will re-purpose 80% of the Expo’s build environment into an integrated mixed use community that will continue to attract businesses and people to work, live, visit and enjoy.

The main purpose of Expo shows was always bringing people together through experience. As we all know positive socialising lies in the core of our personal wellbeing.
